Warm Greetings and Happy New Year from Healing Horses.
We want to thank everyone for their support and generosity over the last few months. In the last quarter of 2007 friends and volunteers of Healing Horses provided directly or through donations:
• Hay and Grain to feed and sustain over 30 horses, and supplement an additional 50 horses
• Blankets and Bedding for warmth and comfort
• De-worming medicine
• Transportation for 12,000lbs of hay and 4,000lbs of grain per month
• Pain medications
• Supplements
• Foster Care
• Re-training and Adoption
• Fund Raising Events
Thank you all. We are starting to make a difference in the lives of needy horses!
Hope for Hungry Horses
The word is getting out about our Feed Bank Program, and we have had a steady response from caring individuals, as well as a few local businesses. Through your donations and help, many horses in our area are looking forward to brighter futures, now that they have hay and grain to fuel them through the next few weeks.
However, the situation is still dire and ongoing. The winter months are still in front of us and there are horses everywhere with no pasture, that are foraging leaves, tree bark and wooden fencing to try to stave off the misery of starvation.
Hay and grain prices continue to rise at feed stores and this is forcing people to look for ways to give up their horses. We are constantly being contacted about new situations, where we then try to intervene to save these poor animals from ever worsening circumstances. Typically we hear about these horses after they have already gone many weeks without sufficient food, but we are still able to step in and get them on a feeding regimen that starts to have almost immediate results. But sometimes we hear about them too late. These are the traumatic situations we would desperately like to eradicate.
Volunteers are working hard everyday in our Feed Bank outreach program to make sure all the horses we hear about receive some hay and grain, but the supplies are limited and can only be replenished with the financial support of caring people such as you.
We currently have enough volunteer help, but we desperately need more donations. Please honor all our horses by donating, so we can continue to buy hay and grain for them during the coming winter months.
To feed the horses currently in Healing Horses program costs approx. $2,500.00 per month.
**$20.00
will feed one horse for a week**
This will continue to rise as more horses are neglected and abandoned. We anticipate the situation will worsen over the coming months as hay and feed become even shorter in supply.
Your donations to Healing Horses will save lives this winter.
